The Oculus Rift DK2 Survives A Little Longer..

By  |

To Developers not receiving a Consumer Version of the Rift ahead of time, don’t worry. The SDK 1.0 will still support the Oculus Rift DK2.

Following yesterdays announcement of the Oculus Rift Consumer kit being sent out to developers a few months before it’s publicly released, We’ve recently been informed by Oculus’ very own Tom Forsyth after asking “Will SDK 1.0 only support the CV1?” via Twitter that “Nope. 1.0 Supports DK2” and later replied with “It was a good guess! But we wouldn’t do that to you lovely folks!”

With Oculus releasing 1.0 for CV1 Developers, we still do not yet know if they will publicly release 1.0 before the Consumer version arrives.

However, it seems Oculus has thought about those with the Development Kit 2 and want to give us a few more months of life before being required to purchase the consumer version to carry on.

One of the many things I love about Oculus, coming from one man, one Kickstarter, it’s very rare for a company these days to think about their people like this, most companies would stop supporting the development kits as soon as Consumer kits hit the shelves, lucky for us we’re seeing something different.
